The City of Carlsbad has acquired a longtime San Diego city employee as its new planning director, Marcela Escobar-Eck, who stepped into her new role in September. To welcome the newly appointed director, the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce held a breakfast reception on Tuesday, September 20 in their Four Seasons conference room.
Escobar-Eck most recently served as the chief deputy director of customer support and information in the Development Services Department for the city of San Diego. She will be replacing Michael Holzmiller, who retired late last year after 24 years with the city of Carlsbad. Reporting directly to Sandra Holder, the city’s community development director, Escobar-Eck will manage a staff of 25 full-time employees and oversee an annual budget of $3.1 million for the Planning Department.
