Brian Albright has been selected as the city of Carlsbad's new recreation director, according to City Manager Lisa Hildabrand.
Albright was selected after a rigorous nationwide recruitment, following the retirement of long-time director Ken Price last April. Albright began working at the city on Oct. 24.
Albright most recently held the position of assistant parks and recreation director for the county of San Diego where he oversaw all of the operating divisions of the department. His responsibilities covered 102 parks and recreation facilities, 40,000 acres of parkland and 200 full-time staff.
“We are excited that Brian has accepted the recreation director position,” Hildabrand said. “Brian brings many years of proven leadership skills in community service and recreation to our city, and we are confidant that his skills and expertise will add to Carlsbad's top-quality recreational services.”
As recreation director, Albright is responsible for planning, organizing and directing the activities of the city's recreation, senior and park planning programs; developing and implementing department policies and procedures and preparing and administrating the department budget and ordinances.
Albright also will partner with the city's Parks and Recreation Commission and Senior Commission to develop and pursue recreation projects that will add to the vitality and success of recreation programs and services provided to the community.
