The Carlsbad Convention and Visitors Bureau reports that the TOT numbers, released by the City of Carlsbad, indicate a record year is on the way.
The fiscal year-to-date total shows an increase of 6 percent for the same time period for the year 2000-2001, which was the best year ever for Carlsbad's TOT, and a 13 percent increase, year-over-year.
As the official destination marketing organization for Carlsbad, the CVB actively pursues the leisure travel market. Recent ads in Sunset Magazine, Conde Naste, National Geographic Traveler, website optimization and the publishing of the bureau's 2005 Visitors Guide have all contributed to the record number of inquiries the bureau has received.
Kurt Burkhart, executive director for the CVB said, "this is great news for Carlsbad and we are pleased to have done our part." Burkhart commented further, "as we go into our high season, we are optimistic these numbers will show further improvement by the end of the June 30th fiscal year. CVB Board Chairman, Patrick Fearn, agrees with Burkhart's assessment. "This bureau has effectively employed the right elements in marketing our destination," and added, "the CVB has generated nearly $3 million of free media exposure over the last three years. Raising that kind of awareness about Carlsbad is obviously paying off."
