The top professional women golfers in the world are expected to take part in the 2014 LPGA Kia Classic, which will be held March 24-30 at the Park Hyatt Aviara Golf Club in Carlsbad, hosting the world-class event for the second year.

Last year, 49 out of the top 50 players on the tour took part in the tournament, which saw Beatriz Recari of Spain defeat I.K. Kim of South Korea in a playoff. It was her first LPGA Tour victory.

Recari will return this year, along with a playing field of 144 players who will be competing in the tournament, which has a $1.7 million purse.

The tournament format is a 4-day, 72-hole competition preceded by a one day 18-hole Pro-Am. Paula Creamer, Natalie Gulbis, Michelle Wie and Lexi Thompson are among those expected to play.

"It was a privilege to welcome the first LPGA or PGA event into the Park Hyatt family last year with tremendous success," said Scott Allen, general manager for Park Hyatt Aviara Resort. "We anticipate this year's tournament to be equally exciting for players and fans alike, and are delighted to continue our partnership with the LPGA and Kia."
