Contributing an extensive background in business development, Ruprecht von Buttlar was named Chairman of the Board for Sustainable Surplus Exchange (SSE). Currently, Mr. von Buttlar is the managing director of Procopio Business Advisors, LLC, where he is responsible for the direction and development of non-legal, strategic business consulting projects for new and existing clients. Additionally, he oversees the Procopio LaunchPad program, an incubator and accelerator for entrepreneurs based in Procopio’s Del Mar Heights office.
“Under the leadership of Sue Prelozni, Sustainable Surplus Exchange has gained significant traction in the San Diego – Baja region, with both large companies and medium – sized companies donating significant assets to help start-up entrepreneurs as well as school districts,” commented Mr. von Buttlar. “I am hoping to assist Sue and her board to further scale SSE in the San Diego – Baja region and possibly beyond and thus to promote this great model for sustainability.”
Prior to joining Procopio, von Buttlar was Vice President, Business Creation & Development for CONNECT, where he developed a number of initiatives, including the internationally recognized Springboard program, access to capital, technology transfer acceleration and Global Services. Previously, von Buttlar held global chief executive and business development positions in the telecommunications and internet industries.
“I met Ruprecht through the Springboard program where he became my mentor,” said SSE executive director Sue Prelozni. “Sustainable Surplus was the first and only nonprofit to graduate from the program, and we have benefitted from the experience greatly.” That von Buttlar continues to lead and mentor SSE is rather appropriate.
In addition to SSE, Ruprecht serves on several boards, including Orphagen Pharmaceuticals, Inc., SpineOvations, Inc, the San Diego chapter of the MIT Enterprise Forum, San Diego Community Ventures and SDSU’s University Copyrights and Patents Committee. Ruprecht has a BS in Industrial Engineering from the University of Hamburg and a MBA from Loyola College in Maryland.
