Study Depot's Third Annual “EXTRA MILE” college scholarship competition is now underway, and local high school seniors are invited to participate through their school's guidance office. Study Depot, a tutoring center that has been assisting families for over five years in La Costa, is once again offering three $500 college scholarships- in Math, Essay Writing and Merit to seniors who excel in these areas. The schools involved in the competition are Army-Navy Academy, Carlsbad High School, La Costa Canyon High School, Oceanside High School, San Dieguito Academy, San Marcos High School, Santa Fe Christian School and The Grauer School.
These scholarships are funded through the non-profit arm of Study Depot. One or both of the owners, David and Colleen Christopher, run in the Carlsbad marathon each year. David Christopher explains,” through the support of individual and corporate sponsors, we go the EXTRA MILE so that our students will have the opportunity to go the distance in their education”. To date, Study Depot has provided money for college to six extraordinary local high school students.
Because the EXTRA MILE Scholarship Fund is an Official Charity of the San Diego Marathon, students can volunteer at their water station and receive valuable community service hours towards their college applications. In the last three years local students have logged over 700 community service hours volunteering at the Study Depot Marathon Water Station. This is also an excellent chance for students to develop leadership skills.
Study Depot, located at 7750 El Camino Real in La Costa, and on the web @ www.StudyDepot.com offers a unique, comprehensive tutoring program that provides elementary through high school students with exceptional opportunities for academic success. Director Colleen Christopher sees herself as a partner to parents and teachers, working with them to help their children be the best learners they can be. “My goal is to give students the tools and the edge they need to excel in this highly competitive academic environment”, says Ms. Christopher.
