InnoVision offers FDA-approved lens to cataract patients
InnoVision Eye Care Centers of Carlsbad and Coronado announced that they will provide the recently FDA-approved AcrySof ReSTOR Lens to cataract patients. The Food and Drug Administration endorsed the new artificial lens (intraocular lens) this past March. The lens is designed to restore sight at near, intermediate and distant ranges following cataract surgery.
InnoVision Eye Care Centers' ophthalmologists received surgeon training for use of the lens in April, but could not provide the newest option to cataract patients until now, following commercial shipment from Alcon Inc. in May. Alcon Inc. said the clinical studies supporting the FDA approval showed that 80 percent of patients who received the AcrySof ReSTOR lens did not use glasses or contacts for any activities after cataract surgery. Prior to the new lens, cataract patients could receive artificial lenses that rely on the eye's muscle to achieve different ranges of vision. But, with ReSTOR Lens, different ranges of vision are achieved with a lens configuration that enables specific distribution of light in response to the size of the eye's pupil.
