Three new clubs for Carlsbad High School students were recently approved by the Carlsbad Unified School District. From encouraging democracy and civic responsibilities to cultivating individual interests and talents, Students for a Progressive America Club, the Teen Korps Club, and the Animation Club create benefits for both the students who participate as well as the surrounding community.
Students for a Progressive America and Teen Korps bothpromote civic responsibility and community activism through participation in the political process and local volunteer work. However, each has individual goals that they are simultaneously working to accomplish.
Striving to create a more liberal and democratic society, Students for a Progressive America Club works to encourage and unite liberal-progressive students through campus and non-campus related political work and community service. Participants of Teen Korps, a local chapter of the national organization Kids Korps USA, will focus primarily on volunteer work and service through the club's group projects in addition to individual projects which the organization posts online.
"Because of their links to larger organizations, and by going beyond volunteering and community service, these clubs are expanding the opportunities for Carlsbad's students beyond the campus environment," stated Delores Delgado, the Carlsbad Unified School District's director of secondary education.
Through the study and discussion of common techniques and themes, the Animation Club aims to advance students' knowledge and interest in animation art including the popular, Japanimation.
By approving these clubs, the Carlsbad Unified School District is providing Carlsbad High students with opportunities to not only improve themselves as individuals, but the community of Carlsbad as a whole.
