North San Diego County is one step closer to its new recreational park after San Diego County Supervisors unanimously approved Fifth District Supervisor and Vice Chairman Bill Horn's request to purchase the 116.56 acre parcel of land from San Luis Rey Downs Enterprises for $3.2 million.
The nine-mile long public park will offer both trails and sports fields while simultaneously protecting the sensitive habitat that surrounds the area.
Eventually, the San Luis Rey River Park will total approximately 1,500 acres of land. Due to its close proximity to State Route 76, all land acquisitions for the park will be coordinated with Caltrans to ensure compatibility with potential future improvements to the highway.
