The Carlsbad Chamber's Technology Committee is one of its newest. This committee looks at current and emerging technology issues and how they affect the bottom line of any business.

Bob Baghai is the Committee's Chairman and Michael Babowal, Director of Government Affairs, is the staff liaison for the group. This committee meets each month on the third Tuesday at 7:30 a.m. Most meetings are held at the Chamber in one of their conference rooms, however off-site activities are planned occasionally. These include touring facilities that are using emerging technological devices or strategies to run their business or nearby Chamber offices

Goals/Objectives for 2006:
In the upcoming year, the Technology Committee aims to bring about a better understanding of technology and its uses within the business place. The group also plans to be an advocate for technology advances that will improve Carlsbad and the surrounding area's local, national and global competitive position as a growing area of technological innovation.

A helpful part of achieving this goal lies within the committee's mission statement – “To educate Chamber members on the use of technology and how it can help their business, and keep the Chamber on the cutting edge of technology in order to better serve its members."

Another goal for the committee is to provide hands-on Chamber Assistance. This means the committee will strive to enhance the Chamber and its members by serving in a technical advisory capacity and assisting with technology related venues. Some ideas for increasing the visibility of the committee and its services include:
? Establishing a Technology Corner @ First Friday Breakfasts
? Creating a Technology Pavilion @ Annual Business Expo
? Publishing Technology-related articles in the Carlsbad Business Journal

In order to achieve optimal growth and success, the committee realizes education is a necessity. This means additional and improved community involvement tools. The Tech Committee plans to institute programs and initiatives that advance technology issues in the Carlsbad and surrounding community as well as provide educational advancement and support programs to enhance education of the business community and those pursuing technology-related careers. This can be done through a few different ways including seminars or workshops

It is also important to increase attendance and the participation levels for existing and new committee members. A few of the current Tech Committee members mentioned planning field trips and bringing guest speakers to discuss topics of Technological concern of Chamber members.
Share your technology concerns, questions or ideas. This way we can bridge the gap and educate our members and the community in an area that is essential to every business owner or professional in today's tech world.
