Executive's name: Kenneth R. Satterlee
Title: CEO/President
Company name: St.Croix Capital Corp. / Kelly Capital
Address: 4350 Executive Dr. Ste. 301

Phone: (858) 784-3660
Website: www.stcroixcapitalcorp.com.
Founded: 1981
Prior Experience: I was a commercial real estate broker/developer since 1977. I then started with Coldwell Banker Commercial Brokerage (now CBRE). In 1980, I worked at Burnham Real Estate Services and became the significant owner of the company. After 25 years with Burnham, I sold my interest in the company and now I am a full time commercial developer.
Source of starting funds: Personal funds.
Gross value of projects in progress:
2003: $50,000,000
2004: $190,000,000
2005: $275,000,000
Average hours worked weekly: 60
Number of team mates: 8
Residence: La Jolla
Family: Wife, Candy; and four children – Daniel 26, Casey 19, Kenny 17 and Kelly 15.
Hobbies: I enjoy hockey, baseball, music, gardening and traveling.
What got you into this business? I was recruited by a broker at Coldwell Banker Commercial Brokerage.
What makes your business stand out? My business stands out because we deliver quality product, build in high profile markets and we are willing to sell the product.
Drawbacks to your line of business: The biggest drawbacks right now I would have to say are the fluctuating economic cycles and increasing construction costs.
Why do you develop in Carlsbad? What many perceive to be barriers of entry in developing in Carlsbad we view as an advantage. The regulations imposed by city development staff result in a highly coveted finished product that inevitably has a higher value.
How do you plan to grow? By exploring growth markets in other parts of the country.
Toughest career decision: Leaving the Burnham family.
Ongoing challenges: It's a difficult job to juggle between balancing the company's growth while, at the same time, maintaining fiscal sanity.
Best way to stay competitive: Buy and develop the best real estate available and don't develop for development sake.
Where would you like the company to be in 5 years: To be run by my team.
What does your company contribute to Carlsbad: Quality work environment developments which reflect the environment, and significant dollars to the tax base.
What are your guiding principles: Honesty, integrity and commitment.
One thing others don't know about you: I love to garden.
One thing you would change: Nothing, I've been blessed.
Choice for a second career: President of the United States, (no, really a rock star).
People you look up to and why: My parents because I see the benefit of my upbringing more everyday; Malin Burnham and Bob Lichter who taught me the benefit of community and social and civic involvement.
Favorite movie: Stripes.
Favorite quote: "A good name is to be more desired than great riches."
Advice for new entrepreneurs: Be willing to admit when you don't know and willing to provide opportunity to those who do.
