The goal to raise $1 million in support of education in Carlsbad is closer to being realized, in part, because of a $4,000 donation presented by The Corky McMillin Companies during the Carlsbad Education Foundation's "Kids Are Worth A Million" telethon.
Presenting a check during the live televised event on March 23 were Josh Gates, assistant project manager for McMillin Land Development, and Carol Morgan, manager of McMillin Realty in Carlsbad.
"As an active member of the community of Carlsbad, McMillin is pleased to participate in this worthy endeavor to provide the best education possible," said Gates. The money represents a $50 donation for each closed escrow at the master-planned community of Calavera Hills in Carlsbad. Since 1998, more than $30,000 has been donated.
Last year, McMillin donated $3,000 to the Carlsbad Education Foundation. The builder plans to continue the gesture with homes built at neighboring Robertson Ranch as well.
More than 500 Carlsbad Unified School District students in grades kindergarten through high school participated in this year's three-and-a-half hour telethon, which raised $82,000. The theme was Hollywood Salutes Education.
The Kids Are Worth A Million? Technology campaign in 1997, was CEF's initial project to raise $1 million to fund technology throughout Carlsbad Unified School District. In July 2001, that goal was reached.
The Carlsbad Educational Foundation (CEF) is a non-profit corporation founded in 1983 by business and community leaders to support education in Carlsbad. Over the years, the foundation has contributed over $1.5 million to enhance learning opportunities for the children of the Carlsbad Unified School District.
The Kids Are Worth A Million? STAR campaign is CEF's current fundraising project designed to raise $1 million to support Science, Technology, Arts and Reading education for students. The goal of the campaign is to broaden the spectrum of educational resources provided to children. These tools will assist in developing well-rounded students.
