The week of April 23-24 a group of fourteen chamber members and staff headed to Sacramento on the chamber's yearly trip to meet with our legislators at the "Building" (Sacramento talk for the State's Capitol).

On day one the group met with newly elected Minority Leader, Assemblyman George Plescia and Assemblyman Mark Wyland. John Valencia, a lobbyist for Carlsbad-based Invitrogen also briefed the group on current issues the biotech industry is facing in Sacramento.

The 14-member Carlsbad group segregated into smaller groups and lobbied several other state elected officials on issues including: Workers' Compensation, Utilities, Healthcare and Minimum Wage. A separate group met with the Sacramento office of the Small Business Administration.

On day two the group had breakfast with Governor Schwarzenegger and 1,000 of his closest friends. The governor outlined his plan to get money for California's levees, keep workers' compensation rates dropping and make California a business friendly state.
