New Village Arts' Theatre (NVA) is proud to celebrate their fifth anniversary as Carlsbad's critically acclaimed, award-winning professional theatre company. NVA was awarded the prestigious 2005 Craig Noel Award from the San Diego Theatre Critics Circle and the 2005 Patt? Award for Theatre Excellence from KPBS television. Join them this summer as they present their fifth free Shakespeare in the Park production to the North County community.

Now presenting its fifth season of plays, New Village Arts has become known throughout the region for outstanding ensemble work and intensely thrilling productions. Francis Gercke and Kristianne Kurner, graduates of the prominent Actors Studio Drama School in New York are founders of NVA and frequently direct and star in the productions.

Shakespeare in the Park continues to be the highlight of the summer for North San Diego County. This year the theatre presents the theatrical blockbuster Hamlet, one of Shakespeare's best loved dramas, featuring award-winning actor Gercke in the title role. Award-winning director (and founder of Moxie Theatre) Delicia Turner Sonnenberg will lead the production.

In 2002, NVA began the tradition with As You Like It. The three nights of performances attracted an audience of approximately 750 people. NVA expanded its offering in 2003, with A Midsummer Night's Dream performed to over 3,000 audience members in three different locations over three weekends, and was awarded a San Diego Playbill "Billie" Award for Outstanding Ensemble. 2004's Twelfth Night was hailed by critics and audiences alike, attracting over 4,000 audience members

Last year, over 5,000 people experienced The Two Gentlemen of Verona and NVA anticipates upwards of 8,000 people this year. In five short years, New Village Arts has created the family event of the summer.

New this year NVA has partnered with Henry's Market in Carlsbad to provide pre-ordered dinners packaged in Hamlet theme. Theatre-goers have the option of two dinner choices and can pick up their gourmet dinner and beverages on the way to the evening's show.

New Village Arts' Shakespeare in the Park is created entirely by professional San Diego artists, it is the only event of its kind to celebrate the San Diego Artist and allow the entire community to experience the magic of Shakespeare.
