In an effort to provide quality, affordable education to Cox Communication employees, MiraCosta College, in partnership with San Diego Community College District and Cox Communication, have been offering specialized management training for employees at Cox's Oceanside facility. Classes have also been offered to employees at the San Diego Cox facility.

In April 2003, MiraCosta College faculty began teaching courses necessary for students to obtain a Management Certificate of Competence. This 22-unit certificate is designed to give students a solid introduction to various management philosophies and skills. MiraCosta College worked diligently with Cox Communication to offer classes on-site and in the evenings in order to accommodate students' work schedules.

"This program is a great example of the success that can be achieved when a college and a business team-up to encourage workforce development," says Leon Levy, director of the MiraCosta College Community Services Program. "It's also a testament to the dedication of these students, who each have their own families and unique situations but for three years have worked and studied hard to further their education."

Seven Cox Communication employees are graduating with the Management Certificate of Competence. The employees are Dan Beeman, Philip DeRoulet, Elizabeth Holmes, Kelly Smith, Richard Reeves, Felipe Munoz and Sandra Miller.

MiraCosta College will be holding a special graduation ceremony for these employees and their families on Tuesday, September 19 at 6 p.m. at MiraCosta College in Aztlan A and B in the Student Center.
