The Armed Services Committee ended its first year as a full-fledged committee in style by being named the "2006 Committee of the Year" at the chamber's annual First Friday Breakfast Volunteer Recognition. The committee assisted with Camp Pendleton's new "Wounded Warrior Center," hosted many guest speakers from Camp Pendleton's command and in July, the committee hosted their second annual Patriotic Rally: Barbeque and Classic Car Show at Camp Pendleton's School of Infantry (SOI). SIO is a training division at Camp Pendleton where men in the United State Marine Corps learn the advance skills of infantry.
To expand on their successes in 2006, the Armed Services Committee is moving forward with a Member 2 Military program. The program is a way to thank American heroes, while giving recognition to members who support the military. Although details are still in the works, the program would be much like the chamber's current Member 2 Member discount. But instead of offering discounts to chamber members, the discounts would be for active and retired military members and their dependents.
