In an effort to continue to build an urban village, as described by David Sucher, the Carlsbad Redevelopment Agency is currently considering revised development standards for the Village Redevelopment Area in order to encourage and support the continued evolution of the interesting place known as the Carlsbad Village.
The revised development standards being considered include, setbacks at 0 feet (Districts 1-4); building coverage at 100 percent (Districts 1-4); height to 45 inches (Districts 1-4); no roof pitch requirement (all Districts); no guest parking for residential (all Districts); restaurant parking at 1 per 200-square feet of gross floor space (all Districts); tandem parking for residential (all Districts); creative parking solutions (all Districts); eliminate planned development standards (all Districts) and density of up to 40 du/acre (Districts 1-4).
The revisions to the development standards for the Village will be a topic of discussion during public workshops to be held at 7:30 a.m., noon and 6:30 p.m. Jan. 25 at 1200 Carlsbad Village Drive. The purpose of the workshops will be to obtain general public input on the proposed standard revisions and opinion on the definition of an urban village and its application to the Carlsbad Village. The redevelopment agency wants to know if the proposed development standards are consistent with resident visions and perceptions of the future of Carlsbad Village.
Each workshop will be scheduled to last for about 1.5 hours. Based on participation levels, additional workshops may be scheduled at a later date.
