The Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce is your link between the local, state and federal elected officials. Our staff has developed relationships with all of Carlsbad's elected officials to ensure that you have a voice at all levels of governments. Whether its how to work with the City of Carlsbad to get a temporary sign put up, or working with Congressman Bilbray's office to help you schedule meetings while visiting Washington DC the chamber is here to help you.
Who to Contact
The chamber has a dedicated staff member to handle all of your legislative needs and issues. Michael Babowal, our director of government affairs is here to help you and listen to your issues with the government. If you have concerns about upcoming legislation or need to know which government official to contact, Michael is the person to talk with.
Michael came to us in August 2005 from Lodi, which is located 30 minutes from Sacramento, where he worked as a field representative for Assemblyman Alan Nakanishi (AD-10, R-Lodi). While with the Assemblyman, he handled issues with all state agencies and actively worked with several chambers of commerce as the Assemblyman's representative. Michael has extensive experience working on campaigns, and ran the chamber's "No on Prop E" campaign. He is the staff liaison for the Government Affairs Committee, which meets the first Wednesday of each month from 7:30-9 a.m. in the Four Season Conference room at the chamber.

When to Contact
Whenever you have a business issue involving any part of the government – taxes aside – do not hesitate to contact the chamber. We are here to help provide you assistance with bill analysis, which government agency to contact, contacting elected officials, writing letters of support for your project if support is approved by the board of directors and testifying on your behalf at city council, county supervisor or other government meetings.

Become Involved
It is as easy as coming to a monthly meeting to become involved are joining the Government Affairs Committee at the chamber. It is as easy as sending an email to [email protected]. You can also log on to www.carlsbad.org and go to Public Policy/Government Affairs to get updates on legislation, join the Government Affairs Committee or simply get the monthly agenda for the committee. The committee makes recommendations to the board of directors on what the chamber's official position on legislation and ballot measures should be.
No matter if you are a large company with 1,000 employees or you are the business, office legislation and government actions affect how everybody does business. The Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce is here to help make the process of working with the government a little easier.
