The Carlsbad Convention and Visitors Bureau reached its halfway point in the number of consumer travel shows that it plans to participate in this year. If past show attendance serves as an indicator, Carlsbad will finish the show season strong results.
Every year the bureau reviews its lineup of travel shows and focuses on at least six shows. Typically, the bureau has been successful in the primary and secondary feeder markets for Carlsbad, which include Los Angeles, the Inland Empire and Phoenix, among others.
This year started out with the bureau's fourth consecutive year at the Las Vegas Prestige Travel Fair. Locals flock for the one-day show and cart away bags full of brochures and various giveaways. The Jan. 20 show met every expectation and the bureau will be back in 2008. Partnering properties, West Inn & Suites and Inns of America Suites, joined the bureau and provided two-night getaway packages to winners of the random draw.
Additionally, the bureau returned to Seattle to promote fun and sun to the Pacific Northwest. The bureau markets Carlsbad from Seattle north to Vancouver using its destination lure brochure on the ferry system during the winter and early spring. The Best Western Beach View Lodge and Beach Terrace Inn partnered with the bureau for the two-day show, with getaway packages being awarded to selected winners.
No show schedule is complete without attendance at the Los Angeles Times Travel & Adventure Show. The Carlsbad Inn & Beach Resort, together with West Inn & Suites, joined the bureau for this spectacular two-day show that brought in more than 15,000 paying attendees. This is the largest travel show on the West Coast, with more than 480 booths. The bureau gathered numerous sign-ups for the three giveaway packages, which helps in both tracking results of the show and building the bureau's database for future marketing.
We are looking forward to attending the Arizona Travel Show in the NFL's newest stadium, the home of the Arizona Cardinals, as well as our fifth consecutive appearance at the Bay Area Travel Show in Santa Clara. Our partners from the Carlsbad Inn, West Inn, Beach Terrace and Inns of America will help to finish out this year of shows with the bureau, and we thank them for their support.
