For the first time this year, the Board of Directors for the Carlsbad Convention and Visitors Bureau stepped forward at the Kids Are Worth A Million televised telethon to donate $1,000 to the Carlsbad Educational Foundation. Presenting the check on behalf of the board was board chairwoman, Nancy Nayudu, and the board's vice chairwoman, Kimberly Akers.

“We were so excited to be a part of this worthwhile endeavor,” Nayudu said. “My kids have personally benefited through this program and so I know, first-hand, the value that's realized through every dollar contributed.”

Representatives of the Carlsbad CVB Board of Directors include area hotels and attractions, such as Legoland, The Flower Fields and the Museum of Making Music. They work cooperatively with others within the hospitality and tourism industry, such as restaurants, retailers, event organizers and various other community groups to leverage opportunities to promote the Carlsbad brand.

“Providing funding support to Kids Are Worth A Million is an important, tangible way of giving back to a great community that depends so much on a healthy, vibrant tourism industry,” Akers said. “I am always amazed by the tremendous generosity of not only those in our own industry, but by the countless others in Carlsbad who continue to make this a stellar community through volunteerism and philanthropy.”

Akers applauded the board for working to help others.

“Hopefully, this will not be the (only) time that we do something like this,” Akers said, adding that donations came from individual board members and corporate donors, and not from the Carlsbad CVB.
