Carlsbad Business Journal: Who are MM&A's executive staff?
Marrs: Myself, Dan Marrs, president; Nancy Maddocks, secretary and treasurer.
CBJ: What is your background?
Marrs: I hold the accredited Advisor in Insurance and Certified Insurance Counselor professional designations and am a candidate for the Certified Risk Manager Designation. I am a past board member of the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers Association of San Diego.
CBJ: What is the company's background and history? And why was it formed?
Marrs: The principles of MM&A have spent their entire careers in the insurance agency/brokerage business. Our goal when starting MM&A in 1991 was to form an insurance agency whose goal above all else was to deliver unparalleled customer service. In doing so we had faith that our business would grow and be profitable by developing strong relationships with both customers and carriers.
CBJ: What is unique about your company?
Marrs: I believe we are unique in that we truly can deliver all insurance products and services a customer may need. As I said before, customer service is our passion. There is not a lot of bureaucracy within our office; the person who sells you an insurance policy is the person who will also head up the team of professionals who will be responsible for servicing your account. Our expectations are high, and our account managers are the best in the business
CBJ: What is the most challenging aspect of this company?
Marrs: Hiring and retaining motivated positive employees. We are very sensitive to the needs and wants of our employees. We set the bar high, but our employees are rewarded with the ability to work flexible hours and telecommute.
CBJ: What do you enjoy most about your position?
Marrs: Being free to be able to create a company that I would like to work for.
CBJ: What is your greatest accomplishment in business?
Marrs: Growing from very humble beginnings to one of the largest insurance agencies in San Diego County but, more importantly, have earned an excellent reputation for professionalism and superior customer service.
CBJ: What do you see for the future of this company?
Marrs: I believe we have a strong business model in place. I would like us to be able to continue to grow profitably while giving opportunities to our staff for professional growth and benefiting the community.
CBJ: What do you do in your time away from work?
Marrs: Spend it with my family. Surfing, golfing, fitness activities.
