When you were in fifth grade, did you know what it took to build a successful business? Did you know how to conduct yourself for a successful interview? Well, Carlsbad fifth graders do.
Business Matters is an exciting collaboration between the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce, Junior Achievement, and Carlsbad Unified School District to teach fifth grade students about the world of work.
Thanks to sponsorship from the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce, business volunteers from the Carlsbad community visit Carlsbad fifth grade classrooms to teach students how business works, and what they can do to be prepared for the real world, no matter what career path they choose.
Last spring was very successful with a variety of volunteers. One volunteer, Kevin Skjei from Merrill Lynch, had a wonderful time in his Calavera Hills Elementary class.
“The kids had so much fun with the real-world, hands-on experience of making and running their own business that they were disappointed I wasn't coming back the next week,” Skjei said.
