Boys & Girls Clubs of Carlsbad is fortunate to have a board comprised of 40 business and community leaders who give not only their time, expertise and energy, but also support the club financially.
Within the board, there is a select group of eight Executive Committee members who are directly responsible for various aspects of the club's operational guidelines. Executive Committee members serve a two-year term, which ended in June.
Congratulations to the following board members who have been elected to leadership positions for the 2007-09 term: Board President David Kulchin, Liz Carnes, Rich Goldman, John Harelson, Ash Ibrahim, Bill Larson, Richard Macgurn and Luke Matteson. Boys & Girls Clubs of Carlsbad welcomes their participation and insight, said Kelly Morrison Pop, director of development at the club.
She said the club also would like to extend a special thank you to the following board members for their dedicated service over the past two years: Former Board President Patrick Casinelli and Executive Committee members Frank Cowell, Colby Geller, Rick Goldman, David Kulchin, Richard Macgurn, Luke Matteson and Bailey Noble.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Carlsbad's mission is to provide activities and experiences that enrich the lives of young people, inspiring and enabling them to reach their full potential. The club achieves its mission by providing a safe place to learn and grow, ongoing relationships with caring professionals, life-enhancing programs, character development experiences and hope and opportunity.
The club recently received the 2007 Partnership Award for its Physical and Learning Support program from the National Organization on Disability.
The inclusionary program pairs children with special needs with a typically-developing child. The end result is that the lives of all participants are enriched, and a climate of understanding and acceptance of people with disabilities is cultivated and celebrated.
The purpose of the awards is to recognize and promote exemplary projects and innovative programs for physically challenged people. Last October, the National Organization on Disability and its sponsor, Prudential, presented the award to the club, as well as a $2,000 check.
