The following are a number of ways to improve your business in the new year:
1. Seek counseling. The Carlsbad Chamber's Small Business Success Center has many counselors available who understand the issues facing small businesses. Our counselors can look at your business with an objective lens and make recommendations for improvement. On-site consultations also are available.
2. Use your membership. Trying to figure out how to get the best use of your membership? Join us for a Small Business Roundtable so that we can learn more about your business for referrals, as well as which events, activities, committees and programs will help you meet your goals.
3. Netweave your relationships. Schedule an appointment today to learn how to network in the chamber. Attend the bi-monthly Networking to Netweaving workshop to find out how chamber members build referral relationships.
4. Secure Financing. Need financing to start or build your business? Attend the bi-monthly Small Business Financing Workshops to learn more about loan options and meet the bankers.
5. Join your peers for support. Sign up for a Pathways to Success peer support group. A business coach and a small group of members dedicated to building each other's businesses meet every two weeks. The group serves as an accountability and brainstorming advisory team.
Colleen Christopher, owner of the Study Depot Learning Center, said the chamber provides a valuable service to business owners through its Pathways to Success program.
“Learning from other business people widens my scope of understanding about entrepreneurship and various aspects of running a successful business,” Christopher said. “It's so easy to isolate as a business owner; just having this group written in my planner as an important meeting in my week keeps me more connected and focused.”
David Bork, co-founder of Paymerica, also finds the program to be very helpful.
“The Pathways to Success program was attractive to me because the members of the group are not vested in my business. Members have nothing to gain from giving me guarded answers,” Bork said. “The confidential forum enables them to give me honest opinions on issues that I could not get from a board of directors, employees or even friends.”
