I always try to write something positive in this column because the run of the mill media organizations are fraught with negative news items they can't wait to share with us.
So I thought with NO being the first word we heard as we were growing up that I would share a collection of positive thoughts for each of you to use when times get tough.
YES! It's an everyday word. But nothing happens without it. It's the favorite word of people who get things done.
“Yes” opens the door to change, lets the light in and gets the ball rolling. Every idea, invention, project, movement or marriage would starve without it. “Yes” may lead to adventure, risk or even trouble, but “No” leads nowhere. Say “Yes” to life and see where it takes you.
• Our aspirations are our possibilities. Robert Browning.
• Nothing is too small to know, and nothing too big to attempt. William Van Horne.
• Let's assume that each person has an equal opportunity, not to become equal, but to become different. To realize whatever unique potential of body, mind and spirit he or she possesses. John Fischer.
• Live all you can. The right time is anytime. William James.
• The greatest waste in the world is the difference between what we are and what we could become. Ben Herbster.
• Take charge of your thoughts. Plato.
• May I never miss a sunset or a rainbow because I am looking down. Sara June Parker.
• I have found that if you love life, life will love you right back. Arthur Rubinstein.
• I am very aware that we can only think one thought at a time. So I refuse to think the negative thoughts that keep the good out. Louise Hay.
• Be careful what you think and say. Life might be listening and give you less next time. Kobi Yamada.
• Life tends to respond to our outlook, to shape itself to meet our expectations. Rick Devos.
• The word “Yes” may bring trouble; the word “No” leads nowhere. Bantu Proverb.
• The only disability in life is a bad attitude. Scott Hamilton.
• Remember that 20 percent of the people are against everything all the time. Robert F. Kennedy.
• No one really knows enough to be a pessimist. Norman Cousins.
• We are all capable of everything. Virgil.
• Live that you may learn to love. Love that you may learn to live. No other lesson is required. Milton Forester.
Well, if this collection of positive thoughts doesn't do the trick, just remember this: “The shortest distance between two people is a smile.” So just keep smiling, the good times are on their way back.
