What does sustainable energy mean and why should you care? This will be the topic of a two-part series of introductory workshops on the eco-friendly concept.
Sponsored by the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce and the Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation, the free workshops will be given by Andrea Cook of The San Diego Center for Sustainable Energy.
Part One, Climate Change and Its Probable Impacts on San Diego, will take place from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 27 at the City of Carlsbad Faraday Center, 1635 Faraday Ave. The topics will include:
• Likely impacts on our water supply, economy, fires, species, agriculture, energy supply, public, health and local municipalities.
• New environmental laws to be aware of.
• What you can do to reduce your carbon footprint.
• Greenhouse gas emissions in California and the United States compared to other places.
Part Two, What You Can do to be More Sustainable & Save Money Doing It, will take place in September. The time, date and location have not yet been determined. The topics will include:
• Calculating your impact on the environment.
• Actions you can take now for free.
• Next steps, things to consider.
• Product life cycle analysis.
