Several fire hydrants and a few power boxes are still available to be adopted through the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce’s Art in the Heart of the Village program.
The theme of this year’s program is animals and the community is invited to participate in the fire hydrant painting program. Under the approval of the city of Carlsbad, approximately 28 hydrants and four power boxes throughout the Village are expected to be painted.
The cost to adopt a hydrant is $250 and power boxes are available for $350, which includes the adoption fee and paint. Those who refer someone to adopt a hydrant or power box will receive a $25 referral fee.
Once all of the hydrants and power boxes are painted, a detailed map will be provided to the general public that notes the location of each, as well as the artist and sponsor. People will have the opportunity to vote for their three favorite designs.
Ballots will be available at select businesses in the Village. The winners will be announced at a special event.
A portion of the funds raised through this program will benefit Military Outreach Ministry Camp Pendleton. The program sponsors are Carlsbad Animal Hospital and DeNault’s True Value Hardware.
