North County Humane Society celebrates 70 years of service

The North County Humane Society & SPCA will celebrate its 70th birthday by hosting For Paws Fiesta.
The fiesta for the animals will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 26 at the NCHS Dog Park, 2905 San Luis Rey Road, Oceanside. The free event will include raffles, music, a dog/owner look-a-like contest, food, performances and gifts.

Shea Homes ranked highest in customer satisfaction with new home builders in the San Diego market for a third consecutive year, according to the J.D. Power and Associates 2008 New-Home Builder Customer Satisfaction Study released last month.

Bank announces Dolkas as new branch manager

San Diego National Bank has hired Kori Dolkas as assistant vice president and branch manager of its Carlsbad Branch, 2520 El Camino Real.
She replaced Gini Craig, who recently retired. Dolkas, who has been in banking for more than 27 years, is responsible for the management of the branch, developing new business and supervising the staff.

ViaSat secures $50 million Eutelsat order

Satellite equipment maker ViaSat has secured a $50 million order from European satellite company Eutelsat for on-ground base stations.
ViaSat's equipment will be used to connect Eutelsat's European subscribers to the Internet. Eutelsat plans to launch a satellite in 2010 to provide high-speed Internet service.

Aptera Motors hires chief executive officer

Aptera Motors announced last month that it has hired Paul Wilbur as its president and CEO.
Wilbur is an automotive industry veteran who brings 26 years of extensive experience, ranging from product planning and finance to marketing and product development for leading car companies such as Ford and Chrysler. Most recently, Wilbur was the president and CEO of Detroit-based American Specialty Cars, a supplier of open air and convertible roof systems.
Aptera is currently developing an all-electric, two-seat passenger vehicle with a range of up to 120 miles per charge that will begin initial production before the end of this year. Future variants will be capable of delivering up to 300 mpg.
Aptera's technical center is located in Carlsbad. Near-term production and distribution will be predominantly based in California, but long-term plans for high volume assembly locations have not been finalized.
