The Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce recently took its second business trip to China in the last two years.
In 2006, more than 350 people visited northern China. This time, 30 people visited Hong Kong, Macau and other southern cities in China.
The journey through southern China, which departed Nov. 3 and returned Nov. 12, included meetings with Chinese business representatives, time for shopping and visits to historical sites and tourist spots.
One of the chamber's goals is to improve the ability of its members to market their products and services around the world. With this in mind, the chamber hosted the trips to introduce its members to one of the largest untapped consumer markets.
“The trips were a cost-effective way for the chamber's members to enter into China's business and tourism industries,” said Ted Owen, president and CEO of the chamber. “Last month's trip further assisted businesses in getting a feel for the country and the way it does business.”
Although it was a business trip, there was still plenty of time for sightseeing and to enjoy all of the unique things the country has to offer.
“China was a source of constant amazement and delight,” said chamber member Stanley Prowse of the Law Offices of Stanley D. Prowse. “There is a 30-story building, mile-long bridge or endless superhighway everywhere you look, either brand new or under construction. The hotels are first class, the people are warm and friendly and Chairman Mao was nowhere to be seen but on the money.”
