Assemblyman Martin Garrick has been appointed to serve as assistant republican leader for the 2009-10 legislative session.
Garrick's appointment came in December as Assembly Republican Leader Mike Villines unveiled the republican leadership team.
“It is an honor to serve on the leadership team for our Assembly Republican caucus,” Garrick said. “I appreciate the support and trust of my colleagues, and look forward to working with them as we tackle the challenges facing California in the coming years.”
Assistant leaders play an important role in shaping policies, representing the leader, advocating policies and viewpoints, coordinating legislative efforts and helping to determine the schedule of legislative priorities.
“While the budget crisis continues to be the main focus of the legislature, there are a number of other pressing issues that we will have to address during this session,” Garrick said. “Affordable health care, economic stimulus and job creation are just a few of the areas in which republican leadership will help shape policy and assist California's hard working families. I am excited about the role I have been asked to play in that process.”
