North County Young Professionals is taking a Road Trip next month to tour the Encina Power Station and the Carlsbad Desalination Project.
The event will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 9. The cost is $20 and includes a gourmet lunch provided by Chef DK Catering.
The Encina Power Station is located along the south side of the Agua Hedionda Lagoon. NRG West, the operator of the Encina Power Station, is going through the planning process with the California Energy Commission to build the Carlsbad Energy Center Project. If approved, the lower profile, state-of-the-art, air-cooled power plant would eventually replace Encina.
The proposed project would generate electricity more efficiently, using less fuel and creating fewer air emissions. It also is substantially smaller than Encina, which has a boiler stack that is approximately 400 feet high.
The Carlsbad Desalination Project, located adjacent to Encina, is scheduled to begin construction this year. Once operational, the desalination plant will provide enough drinking water each year to serve the needs of 300,000 people.
Owned and operated by Poseidon Resources Corp., the project will serve the communities of Carlsbad, Oceanside, Vista, San Marcos, Valley Center, Chula Vista, National City, Encinitas and parts of Escondido.
NCYP is a networking group comprised of members of the Carlsbad, Oceanside, San Marcos and Vista chambers of commerce. Its purpose is to help young professionals excel.
NCYP is only open to chamber members and the suggested age range is 21 to 39. Don't worry if you're an experienced professional who is 40 or older, NCYP offers a variety of ways to sponsor different programs that will put you in touch with young businesspeople.
Other NCYP events include Blenders, a young take on the typical chamber mixer, and iLunches, networking lunches that feature exclusive, intimate and interactive dialogues with CEOs and VIPs.
No skirts or open toe shoes will be allowed at the Road Trip. Those who want to attend must RSVP by June 5 to Bev Jorgensen, the Carlsbad Chamber's vice president of corporate and member relations, by contacting her at [email protected] or (760) 931-8400.
