The city of Carlsbad's commitment to economic, environmental and social sustainability will be the focus of this year's State of the City Luncheon.
Hosted by the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce, the annual event will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 28 at the Four Seasons Resort Aviara, 7100 Four Seasons Point, Carlsbad. During the luncheon, attendees will watch a video featuring Mayor Bud Lewis, the City Council and city staff members.
Highlights of the video include an overview of the city's strategy for managing through the recession and an update on new environmental initiatives, such as renewable energy. Community partnerships, including Envision Carlsbad, and local economic stimulus initiatives, also will be featured.
“From managing our water supply to finding new, more efficient ways to manage city resources, the choices we are making today will shape the future quality of life for our residents and the prosperity of our business community,” Lewis said. “We're all in this together, and that is why citizen participation has never been more important.”
Each year, more than 400 people, including community members, government officials and prominent business leaders, attend this popular event. The luncheon always sells out, so those who want to attend are encouraged to get their registrations in early.
“The luncheon is highly anticipated by citizens each year because it is a look into the future of Carlsbad,” said Ted Owen, president and CEO of the chamber. “The
opportunity to hear firsthand the plans the city has is very valuable for business leaders and residents alike.”
Chamber members who register by Aug. 7 will receive a discounted price of $50 per ticket; non-members will receive a discounted price of $60 per ticket. After Aug. 7, tickets are $60 for chamber members and $65 for non-members.
A table of 10 with company signage is $475. During the presentation, a gourmet, three-course lunch will be served.
The deadline to register for the event is Aug. 21. Refund fees apply; sorry, but there will be no refunds after Aug. 7.
The luncheon is presented by NRG, Carlsbad Energy Center and Poseidon Resources. Additional sponsors include the Four Seasons Resort Aviara, Life Technologies Corp. and Tri-City Medical Center.
