As a show of support and belief in New Village Arts, the Carlsbad City Council has voted to allow the theatre to take over the lease for the rest of the building it currently calls home.
This addition of more than 3,100-square-feet of space will enable New Village Arts to serve as an arts “incubator” for visual and performing cultural arts, with room reserved for rehearsals, education programs and an additional gallery area. New Village Arts will make the space, which the organization named the Foundry, available for local arts programs and will create a thriving downtown arts center in the Carlsbad Village.
Community groups using the new space include Carlsbad Community Theatre, the KidsAct program, Fit Kids America and Joyful Jumping Music Together. The Foundry also will house six working artists and have space for six additional artists to store their supplies and work in an open space area.
Summer camps and rehearsals began in the Foundry last month. The gallery and working artist space will be open to the public Aug. 1.
New Village Arts Theatre was founded in April 2001 by graduates of New York's Actors Studio Drama School. Its ninth season kicks off July 30 with a new annual event, the NVA Summer Comedy Festival.
The award-winning, critically acclaimed theatre is located at 2787 State St. For more information, visit
