The city of Carlsbad's new social networking initiatives are designed to help community members more easily find the city information important to them and share it with their friends and colleagues.

The city's YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/user/cityofcarlsbadCA) provides short informative videos on topics ranging from the city budget and environmental projects to water conservation tips and community services. Videos can be shared easily with friends through YouTube's sharing and embedding features.
Video and audio podcasts are now available on iTunes. Subscribe to City Council and Planning Commission meetings, as well as a selection of informational videos, and download to an iPod. Or visit the city's Web site to get the same content formatted for an MP3 player. In the iTunes store, search for “City of Carlsbad” under podcasts.
The city's new Web site (www.carlsbadca.gov) has social media tools built in through a “share” box on the right side of many pages. Clickable icons allow users to post city content to their own Facebook and MySpace pages, e-mail content to a friend and add content to social bookmarking sites like Digg.
