Festive banners and decorations adorn the streets, store windows have been painted and decorated with white twinkling lights and several events are planned to celebrate the season.
The Carlsbad Village has been transformed into a winter wonderland. The community is invited to experience holidays in the Village by strolling down one of its quaint streets or enjoying these events:
• Old World Christmas, From 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 4 at the Old World Center, located on the corner of Grand Avenue and Roosevelt Street. The event will feature a Christmas tree lighting in the courtyard, an appearance by Santa Claus and free hot chocolate and cookies. The Marine Corps will accept unwrapped toy donations for Toys for Tots. Anyone who donates a toy will be given a discount coupon for O'Sullivan's Irish Pub.
• Pups on Parade, From 9 a.m. to noon Dec. 6 at The Shops at Village Faire, located at Carlsbad Village Drive and Carlsbad Boulevard. The day starts with individual photos with Santa Claus from 9 a.m. until noon, followed by a group shot that will be taken with Santa at the community Christmas tree. The Puppy Parade will begin at 12:15 p.m. at The Shops at Village Faire and then circle Carlsbad Boulevard, Grand Avenue, State Street and Carlsbad Village Drive.
• Rotary Tree Lighting, From 2 p.m. to dusk Dec. 6 at The Shops at Village Faire, located at Carlsbad Village Drive and Carlsbad Boulevard. This annual tradition continues as the Rotary Club lights the community Christmas tree with the help of Mayor Bud Lewis and Santa Claus. A day full of entertainment and treats will be capped off by the lighting of the beautiful tree.
• Jingle Bell Shop, Dec. 19-20. Enjoy strolling musicians and other street performers, and take advantage of great sales, special deals and holiday goodies offered by the shops and restaurants in the area. You're sure to find some amazing, unique gifts.
• Carlsbad Village Farmers' Market, From 1 to 5 p.m. every Wednesday and Saturday in the parking lot at Grand Avenue and Roosevelt Street. Don't miss the market this month because it will feature a multitude of musical guests and family events to make the holidays merry.
