New Village Arts [NVA] Theatre in Carlsbad Village is presenting the regional premiere of “The Man Who,” a theatrical exploration of various neurological conditions.
The production will run Feb. 4-28 at NVA, 2787 State St. It is inspired Oliver Sacks' bestselling book “The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat,” but is not a conventional stage adaptation of the collection of case histories about the neurologically impaired.
Directed by Executive Artistic Director Kristianne Kurner, “The Man Who” features four actors, including NVA Ensemble members Ron Choularton, Sandra Ellis-Troy and Manny Fernandes, as well as local favorite Walter Murray.
This series of fables is an adventurous journey through the mind, and the kind of performance seldom seen on San Diego stages.
“The Man Who” was created by Playwright Sir Peter Brook, one of the most influential theatre artists in modern history, with his frequent collaborator Marie-Helene Estienne. Brook founded the International Centre of Theatre Research in Paris and won international acclaim for his sensational productions with the Royal Shakespeare Company.
The New York Times referred to “The Man Who” as “one of the most magically effective explorations of the mind (also possibly the soul) ever attempted on the stage” and “as vast and mysterious as the human imagination, and as commonplace as the image of a man trying to shave himself, but failing.”
Ticket prices range from $22 to $30 and can be purchased by calling (760) 433-3245 or visiting www.newvillagearts.org.
