To succeed in business takes dedication, determination, and a willingness to seek opportunity. That opportunity can be found at the Carlsbad Chamber where Membership Counts — it expands your circles of influence, helps you gain knowledge and growth by adhering to a practice of continual improvement.
The Chamber's goal is simple — we want to help you succeed. Our members are an important part of the ongoing creation of business success in Carlsbad. Your insights and ideas are the bricks and mortar that help us build upon that which we have already achieved.
Without our members, the Carlsbad Chamber would not be what it is today — a thriving community of business professionals, friends and associates that come together with the common goal of creating a strong local economy. Our membership is the reason we are the second largest chamber in San Diego County and the 10th largest in the state of California.
Don't stand on the sidelines. Get involved. Make your Membership Count! The Chamber provides myriad networking opportunities. Build your relationships at a monthly First Friday Breakfast, a Sundowner, a Table for 8, ChamberNet10 luncheons, a committee meeting. The opportunities are there.
Every member has a role to play, a vested interest in ensuring the continued successes of our membership organization. So, take action. Work the Chamber, and it will work for you. That's what our Chamber members say.
Many have made vital connections that have propelled them forward in their business. Others have gained valuable insights into new business practices. Deb Beddoe, owner of Your Ops Manager, tracked that 77 percent of her business in 2009 came from her membership with the Carlsbad Chamber.
When I asked member Rick Davis why he joined the Carlsbad Chamber, this was his response:
This is a question I get all the time at First Friday events immediately after the table-facilitation rounds. As president of Arbor Scientia, a medical communications company whose clients are usually medium to large pharmaceutical and medical device companies, it isn't likely that I would connect with a new client at one of our chamber functions. Some Chamber attendees just come right out and ask me, while others are conspicuously wondering, “Why join the Chamber and come to the functions?”
I believe the benefits of the Chamber go way beyond being a source of business to business clients. Previous to my current position I had a training and consulting company based outside of Dallas for 12 years. The nature of my job meant that I was constantly traveling. I had very little, if anything, to do with the local business community and consequently had limited understanding of the challenges, opportunities and important issues that faced my business “neighbors.”
Upon accepting my current position I realized that I could join our Carlsbad Chamber and attend the functions on a fairly frequent basis. My goal in doing this was to be plugged in to the local business community as much as my schedule would allow.
Also, I wanted to look for situations that gave me a way to contribute to helping others in the same way many had aided me in my career. My father is a big influence for me and had always been active in the chamber groups of the various communities that we lived in as I was growing up. I feel that it is important to give back to the community that you live and work in.
My experience at the Carlsbad Chamber has confirmed the wisdom of the decision to join. The individuals at the heart of the organization are a dedicated and enthusiastic group of people working hard for the good of the business community. Some of the many entrepreneurs I've met have become great friends. Some have become valuable resources, and still others are inspiring and admirable individuals. The benefits seem to increase as I invest more time and meet more people at various functions.
Now you know my reason for joining. If you think you would benefit as I have, then join up and become part of the symbiosis.
The Chamber is about people coming together, like-minded people, working together with those they know and trust. The legacy of goodwill you create will enrich you personally and professionally. You can catch the spirit of enthusiasm by just walking into the Chamber office or attending a Chamber-sponsored event. As a member of the vibrant, growing, active Carlsbad Chamber, your business will become well known in the community. By associating with dedicated, respected community leaders, your business will receive an extra measure of respect and enjoy the business community's stamp of approval.
A recent study by The Schapiro Group found that when consumers know that a small business is a member of a chamber of commerce, they are 44 percent more likely to think favorably of it, and 63 percent more likely to purchase goods or services from the company in the future.
Membership Counts! It works, and the Carlsbad Chamber is the place to do it. You will encounter many other successful people at the Carlsbad Chamber. If you make just one life-long customer, your membership has more than paid for itself.
