Time Warner Cable's Connect a Million Minds (CAMM) is a five-year, $100 million philanthropic initiative to address America's declining proficiency in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), which puts our children at risk of not competing successfully in a global economy. CAMM leverages Time Warner Cable's assets across cable television and the Internet to drive awareness of this critical issue and provide simple ways for parents and kids to get involved in their own communities.
Anchoring this initiative is a new Web site – connectamillionminds.com – where parents and community members can pledge to connect youth with the wonders of science. The site features The Connectory, a unique, free, ZIP code-searchable tool designed to help children and their parents find exciting STEM after school opportunities in their communities.
Additional program highlights include original PSAs that challenge public perceptions of STEM, grants to support non-profit organizations that bring high-quality after-school STEM learning to students, and a robust volunteer commitment from Time Warner Cable's staff comprised of more than 47,000 employees across the country.
In San Diego County, Time Warner Cable is partnering with organizations such as the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center, the YMCA, Boys & Girls Clubs, and the Girl Scouts to hold fun, educational opportunities to connect middle school students to science, technology, engineering and math.
Recently, TWC participated in Family Science Night at Calavera Hills Middle School, where the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center and Time Warner Cable employees ran stations at which students and their parents could do hands-on bioscience experiments.
Time Warner Cable also created a curriculum where middle school students can come into Time Warner Cable facilities to learn about cable technology in six fun and engaging stations.
