Even though the Carlsbad Chamber has more than 1,600 member businesses represented by more than 65, 000 employees, I am still amazed that more businesses aren't using the Carlsbad Chamber as their resource. The Chamber is your one-stop business resource shop!
We work hard to create a strong local economy by advocating on behalf of your business. When you have an issue with local government, call the Chamber to represent you before government entities. Our government affairs committee recently spent countless hours reviewing the pros and cons of bills and propositions. We say “vote for business.”
We will be hosting a candidate's forum on September 24 so that our members and the community have an opportunity to make an educated voting decision on the new city council and mayoral positions. Be there to find out where these new leaders stand and how they plan to represent you and your business.
We provide our members with myriad networking opportunities to promote their businesses. This month the Chamber will host the 20th Annual Business Expo at the Sheraton Carlsbad Resort and Spa. Our members need to let the world know that they are open for business by showcasing at this great event. Others should attend to support Chamber businesses and see what is available. Wrap up the evening at the monthly Sundowner, hosted by the Sheraton Carlsbad Resort & Spa. The Sundowner will be held on the patio following the Expo. (It's a Friday night — spend it netweaving with Chamber members.)
Social Media is constantly changing and the Chamber will keep you up to date with the latest and greatest with social media workshops starting at the end of September and continuing through October. Learn about Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, E-mail marketing, and more.
Chamber members will have the opportunity to learn the ABC's of Government Contracting at our workshop next month. This where your membership really counts, as this workshop will only be available to Chamber members. Need to get certified as a minority-owned, woman-owned, or disabled veteran-owned business? Then you must attend this workshop.
Have intellectual property? We will help you learn about patents, copyrights, prototypes and more at the Patent workshop on October 15.
Are you looking to engage your young professional in the community? Well, we have an app for that! Send them to the North County Young Professionals luncheon September 28 to learn about professionalism in the workplace.
Okay, now do you see why the Chamber is your one-stop shop? We are your greatest business resource. All the events that I have mentioned in this column can be found at www.carlsbad.org or in this issue of the Carlsbad Business Journal.
Our vision for the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce is that it be highly respected by the community as the unified voice of business. Our Chamber strives to make membership in the Chamber an investment in the continued success of member businesses, and that it enhances the community it represents.
If you aren't a member and want more information on becoming part of the 10th largest chamber in the state, please contact Kristina McMahon at [email protected] or call 760.931.8400 ext. 218.
