Why is it important to vote? Because if you don't you are not entitled to have a say in the outcome of the election. Every year somewhere in America we conduct Apathy Conferences normally called Elections. About 30 to 35 percent of us on the average attend and participate in them but the remaining 65 to 70 percent complain for years to come about what those who did attend did.The majority of the non-participants lack the desire, inspiration or commitment to spend a few minutes registering their opinion of who should be our representative or which law or program is best for our country or community.
This story is simple to debunk — VOTE. It is your right, your obligation and your only way of having your voice heard.
Here are some factoids to stimulate your thoughts about Election Day.
— Our ancestors fought hard for this right and privilege, don't waste their efforts.
— Think about all the people all over the world who can't vote. They can be killed for their political beliefs. You can vote freely with no consequences.
— Your future and mine depends on everyone's vote. Many times the polls showing what people want compared with the actual outcome are disparate because people are too lazy to be heard.
— Voting is a responsibility of the citizens of every community in a free nation to keep the government being run by appropriate people.
— Voting is a right that people of free nations have so that they can choose the leaders of their country.
— Voting is a way to express your opinion in a positive way.
— Those who don't vote due to political apathy or laziness give up their right to express an opinion to the government about the way they run our affairs.
In Carlsbad the entire makeup of the city council can change in the November 2 election. Depending on how the final outcome registers we will get a new mayor and two new city council members. That is three votes out of five. Depending on who the winners are the results can be significant.
Remember, “One of the great liberal documents of the world is the Declaration of Independence. One of the great conservative documents of the world is the Constitution of the United States. We need both documents to build a country: One to get it started (liberal), and and the other to help maintain the structure over the years (conservative).
It doesn't matter what your party is. Just vote. It's your right and your responsibility.
