As we start our strategy for 2011 it is important to know that this Chamber is taking a giant step forward to go from being a Good Chamber to becoming a Great Chamber. The staff here is committed to putting in place the very best customer service to allow us to assist each of you as your particular need arises. Not everyone needs the same kind of support so we need to be versed in all facets of business acumen to be ready when you call on us.
The staff is privileged to have more than 1,500 companies call this Chamber there own. As we look back over the last 12 months we can be thankful that Carlsbad is one of the best-run cities in the region, perhaps even in the state. We know that out of difficulties we grow miracles. There is nothing we cannot live down, rise above or overcome and that's what makes a Good Chamber evolve into a Great one.
Instead of dealing with problems in a workaday fashion, the new, Great Chamber will approach it thus: When a member approaches us for assistance with a problem, saying, “We have a problem,” we at the Chamber will respond with a hearty, “Congratulations!” “But it's a tough problem,” the member will say, to which we will reply, “Then double congratulations!” Problems are merely opportunities in disguise, and we plan to treat our members' problems as opportunities to reach higher and to attain success together, as a team united behind a goal.
We will bring the Chamber up to a level of significance that makes it an indispensable association. This means that the city can't proceed on a business issue without the Chamber being included in the strategy and planning. We do not take the words, “Unity in Community” lightly. We know that it takes both the public and private sectors' cooperation to be on track for what is good for Carlsbad.
As this Chamber moves into the new decade look for us to include all of you in our new initiative to become a Great Chamber. Look for our announcements of where we are headed, and come along for the ride of the century.

As each of us enters the New Year and a new decade let's be thankful that we live and work in Carlsbad, California and are members of what is becoming one of the Greatest Chambers in the world.
