Shadowridge Country Club has several milestones to celebrate this year. In June the country club will celebrate 30 years in business.
The golf club first opened to the public in 1981. The David Rainville-designed championship course was immediately well received in Southern California. That happened to be the same year TaylorMade Golf, headquartered in Carlsbad, celebrated its first victory at a PGA tour event with its Pittsburgh Persimmon driver being used by the winner of the Houston Open. Shadowridge has hosted a first- stage of PGA Tour Qualifying School and a U.S. Open qualifier in 1983 along with numerous mini-tour events in the last 30 years.
In 1985, SRCC became a private country club acquired by ClubCorp of America. ClubCorp is now the largest owner and operator of private clubs with a portfolio of more than 80 country clubs, 40 dining clubs, and another 55 affiliate clubs. Through ClubCorp's Signature Gold network, Shadowridge Members enjoy complimentary green fees at over 140 private country clubs, including clubs in Akron, Ohio; Mission Hills and Indian Wells in Palm Springs, California; and Bear's Best and Canyon Gate in Las Vegas. At the helm of ClubCorp is Eric Affeldt, who was ranked number one on Golf Inc.'s 2010 Most Powerful People in Golf list.
Earlier this year, Shadowridge celebrated 20 years as a Carlsbad Chamber member. According to Membership Director Dana Albert, “Nearly 35 percent of new members live in a Carlsbad ZIP code and about the same percentage work in the city of Carlsbad. Several of our members are employed in the golf industry with more than 15 members from Taylormade,” he said. “We have several others from Callaway, Titleist, and composite shaft companies like Fujikura, UST, and OBAN.”
Since Shadowridge attracts the passionate golfer in the household, they installed a TaylorMade fitting center featuring Motion Analysis Technology. The Player Development Center provides golfers with enhanced comprehension of their swing, using motion capture technology. The Motion Analysis Technology from TaylorMade (MATT System) features a custom fitting process that can build a club designed to complement each golfer's particular swing.
Each session includes analysis for driver, fairway woods, hybrids, irons, wedges, and putter. SRCC professionals study and analyze the motion-capture and specific clubs are recommended to match each golfer's swing characteristics for driver, irons, rescues, wedges, putter and golf ball. Using interchangeable heads and shafts, the pro builds the recommended clubs for you to test. At the end of the fitting, golfers receive a CD with swing captures and club recommendations. This center is open to the public by appointment only for instruction, fitting, and swing analysis.
SRCC has six golf professionals including an LPGA professional available for private instruction to the public by appointment only. They also offer junior golf camps in the summer months.
