CPAir makes two new appointments
California Pacific Airlines has made two new appointments.
Diane Smith, a veteran of airline customer relations, has been appointed vice president of customer experience and Dave Hopkins has been appointed director of aircraft programs and commercial agreements.
Smith comes to CPAir from Galileo Processing, where she was vice president of customer experience. She was a founding director of Jet Blue, serving 10 years with that airline, heading up the customer service center in Salt Lake City, Utah. Earlier, she was a customer service leader for 3 years at Morris Air, and later, five years at Southwest Airlines as customer service manager.
Hopkins will be in charge of all leasing and acquisition agreements for CPAir. He comes to the new airline with service at Air Transport Business Development, Inc.
CPAir currently is in the process of FAA certification as a scheduled airline. CPAir will fly Embraer 170 aircraft to five western cities from Carlsbad's McClellan-Palomar Airport. Non-stop flight operations to San Jose, Oakland, Sacramento, Las Vegas, and Phoenix are anticipated to begin in the spring of 2012.

Hospice welcomes three board members
Dale Condy, Andrew Maffia and John Gram have joined the Hospice of the North Coast (HNC) Board of Directors.
Dale Condy and his wife, Linda, have owned and operated Gems of La Costa in Carlsbad since 1989. A GIA graduate gemologist, he began his jewelry career while in high school in 1965, working part-time at a family-owned store in Chicago. Condy attributes his success to his philosophy "to do business on a win-win basis" and plans to apply his business acumen to his work on HNC's Board. He already is serving HNC's Resale Shop by assessing the value of jewelry donations.
Andrew Maffia, a certified public accountant, is senior manager at AKT LLP, a CPA and business accounting firm specializing in nonprofit organizations. AKT LLP is one of the top 100 accounting firms in the U.S., with offices in California, Oregon and Alaska. Based in the Carlsbad office, Maffia handles many aspects of client operations and procedures. He also develops and teaches training workshops.
Saying that he is excited to join the Board of HNC, in which he has been involved on a business basis since 2003, Maffia confides, "Hospices have helped my family transition through the loss of loved ones. I have heard heart-warming stories from families HNC has helped and feel good to be able to be a part of that process. I intend to continue making HNC as financially transparent as possible so the public can see what an outstanding organization this is."
Biopharmaceutical professional John Gram is president of an Oceanside-based consulting firm specializing in the commercialization of oncology therapeutics, diagnostics and supportive care agents. He has led teams responsible for the research and development of noted oncology products.
Gram states, "Social awareness and volunteering have been part of our family fabric for many years. After my son Ken's murder in 2009, I made a commitment that I would honor his memory by spending even more time giving back to the community. After investigating a number of volunteer opportunities, I found Hospice of the North Coast. The mission and high caliber of personnel made me realize very quickly that HNC was right for me."
HNC Executive Director Nerice Kaufman states, "We are fortunate to have a Board of Directors comprised of strong community leaders from an array of fields offering proven expertise, immense skills and genuine dedication. With these three new members on our Board, we are well-positioned to advance our programs and services so we can continue to expand and meet the growing needs of clients, families and the community."
Nonprofit Hospice of the North Coast was established in 1980 to fill the need for comprehensive, compassionate hospice care in North County San Diego.

Army and Navy Academy has new bandmaster
A recently retired Marine Corps band conductor, Richard Nunley, has been named Bandmaster at the Army and Navy Academy.
Nunley comes to the academy from the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center at Twentynine Palms where he was the conductor of the base's 50-piece band. He succeeds Mike Donovan who retired last spring after leading the academy's Warrior Atkinson Band in the National Memorial Day Parade in Washington, DC.
A graduate with a degree in music education from Bowling Green State University, Nunley later earned a master's degree in music from San Diego State University and had begun doctoral-level coursework at Boston University before taking this position. He is a member of the Conductors Guild and plans to join the Southern California School Band Directors Association.
"Mr. Nunley has the educational background and leadership experience necessary to further enhance our nationally recognized band program," said Brig. Gen. Stephen Bliss, academy president.
Nunley said he's looking forward to working with current and future cadet band members.
"One of the things that attracted me to the academy was the positive environment in which faculty members and staff work together to enhance the cadets' educational experience," he said. "I'm really looking forward to being able to contribute to the band program."
Nunley and his wife have two teenage daughters and reside in Oceanside.
