For the past two years, the Carlsbad Business Journal has celebrated women-owned small businesses during the month of October. The popular issue serves as an inspiration to the community, shining a spotlight on the accomplishment of Chamber's women entrepreneurs.
As part of that issue, we've conducted a survey of our businesses, and asked them what the Chamber can do to support women-owned businesses (In addition, of course, to all of the general services that we already offer). One of the most consistent responses was the call for the Chamber to offer regular programs geared toward women in business.
This month I am proud to announce the Chamber's first step toward that goal.
On Wednesday, April 23 the Chamber will host noted leadership coach and author Anna Runyan, with tips on how women leaders can communicate more effectively in the workplace.
Runyan, founder of ClassyCareerGirl.com (one of Forbes most influential career sites of 2014) will teach a simple system that will help women leaders gain confidence, and have better working relationships with men on their team for better results.
The program will show you how to:
• Confidently communicate and gain respect
• Stop making common mistakes many female managers make
• Build trust with the men on your team
• Avoid stress, anxiety and miscommunication
• Discover how to negotiate with men
The presentation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Chamber. Lunch is included and seating is limited to the first 50 RSVPs. Early Bird registration is $30 for Chamber members and $60 for prospective members. After April 16, admission price will go up to $40 for members and $70 for prospective members.
Runyan has been featured in Forbes, Bloomberg Businessweek, Yahoo! Finance and People Style Watch. She recently published "The Professional Woman's Guide to Managing Men."
My goal for the year is to create a group geared toward women in business. The success of this endeavor will help us decide if the need for this group is as big as we think it is.
