Early voting underway for June 5 primary

By now, many of you who are registered to vote should have gotten a Sample Ballot & Voter Information Pamphlet in the mail. Followed by this important election material, some of you may receive at Vote-By-Mail Ballot. But for voters interested in casting their ballots even sooner for the June 5th Gubernatorial Primary Election, they can do so now at the County Registrar of Voters office located at 5600 Overland Ave. in Kearny Mesa. Early voting began yesterday, Monday, May 7, and will continue from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and until the polls close at 8 p.m. on Election Day (June 5). The office will also be open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 2 and Sunday, June 3 for weekend voting. Approximately 1 million Vote-By-Mail ballots have been sent out this week for those who want to avoid the trip to the polls or lines on Election Day. “If you know how you want to vote, grab that mail ballot when you get it, mark your choices and send it back in right away,” said Registrar Michael Vu. “The sooner we get the ballot back, the sooner we can start processing it so it will be counted right when the polls close at 8 p.m. on June 5.” On June 5, polls will be open for voting from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mail-in ballots must be postmarked on this day by 8 p.m. The last day to register to vote is May 21. And the last day to request a mail-in ballot is May 29.

All politics is local

While there are no primaries for Carlsbad City Council positions that are up for Election in 2018 (Mayor, District 1 Council Member, District 3 Council Member, City Clerk, City Treasurer) Carlsbad residents still have some important votes to cast for local and state government. Among the seats they will be voting for are: Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Controller, Attorney General, U.S. Senator, U.S. Representative for the 49th District, State Senator for the 36th District, Member of the State Assembly for the 76th District, etc. There are some measures that have been submitted to the voters as well. Meantime, the Registrar is still looking for poll workers especially bilingual poll workers. For more information, call (858) 565-5800 or visit sdvote.com.
