Authors of Carlsbad

October is National Book Month and it is my honor to recognize our own authors of Carlsbad!

We have over 17 local authors that have either self-published or landed a publishing deal. And every few months, that number keeps growing.

From topics ranging from children’s books, to memoirs, parables, and self-help, we have a variety of inspiring storytellers waiting to spark a connection with fellow readers in the community.

Devin C. Hughes—Contrast: A Biracial Man’s Journey To Desegregate His Past.
“In the economy of cool, kindness is the currency that never devalues.”

John Sanders—Parables for Entrepeneurs.
“Have positive cash flow and cash reserves to support growth, possible acquisitions, and protect against any slowdown or economic recession.”

Chris Ryan—Helping Fathers Heal: Grief, Hope, and our Search for Connection.
“Oftentimes, men aren’t expected (or allowed) to show emotions openly…we’re supposed to be an example of strength and stability. It can be uniquely stressful. This book seeks to help others understand grief and provides tools for healing our hearts.”

Ray Pearson—The Adventures of Max and Mandy at the Airport
“Professionally, I’ve had the opportunity to travel all over the world and be in many airport terminals. The inspiration for The Adventures of Max and Mandy at the Airport came from watching birds flying around in the terminals and seeing our students’ creativity in our school classrooms as a CUSD Board Trustee.”

Amy Forsythe—Heroes Live Here: A Tribute to Camp Pendleton Marines Since 9/11
“Support from the North County community has exceeded my wildest expectations! The idea for Heroes Live Here started as a passion project to showcase the memorials and tributes on Camp Pendleton and has turned into a collaborative work of art that honors our fallen heroes of the post-9/11 generation. I’m so grateful for the continued enthusiasm and support for sharing stories of those who have defended our American values.”

Ron Gerevas, Change Agent: The Art and Adventure of Relentless Career Innovation
If you’re not willing to change, don’t expect to change others.”

Claude Jones—Astro the Monster
“As a local author, my mission is to inspire children to discover their inner leaders through fun and relatable stories. Astro the Monster was born from a desire to teach kids the power of confidence, teamwork, and empathy. I hope these stories not only entertain but empower young readers to believe in their ability to make a positive impact in the world.”

Bob Garrett—Music From Both Sides of the Moon
“Angels can fly ‘cause they take themselves lightly”

Eric Noel Muñoz—Peli Can Surf
“The oceans connect coastal communities around the world more than cultures and geography separate us; my life and writings aim to explore and celebrate those connections”

Beth Thorp—ANEW Creation: Finding Meaning in the Midst of Tragedy

“ANEW Creation is a testament to how God speaks to those who listen and believe. Beth is passionate about being the light in the dark to others.”

Vince Vasquez—Craft Breweries and Cities Perspectives from the Field
This book brings together a diverse collection of case studies, perspectives, and research to explore how craft breweries have interacted with cities and neighborhoods in meaningful ways. It provides a deeper understanding of the important issues facing neighborhoods, city government, and breweries, such as economic development, race and equity, crime, and sustainability. Craft breweries are meaningful contributors and participants in addressing these critical challenges.”

Elaine Swann—Let Crazy Be Crazy
“Complete with practical examples and tips, this book shares Elaine Swann’s advice on the perils of what she calls “Crazy Folk.” Whether in our professional environments or family and personal relationships, they exist. Swann gives sensible guidance on:
let-crazy-be-crazy.”

Bill Toone—On the Wings of the Condor
“Bill’s 40+ year personal journey as a conservation biologist who traveled to over 100 countries in search of the true meaning of conservation.”

Kids for Peace—Kindness Matters: 50 ways to create a kinder world
“Kindness Matters is a collection of vibrant and inspiring artwork by Great Kindness Challenge students, illustrating ways to create a kinder world.”

Lisane Basquiat —Jean-Michel Basquiat: King Pleasure©
“Organized by the family of Basquiat, the exhibition and accompanying catalogue feature over 200 never before and rarely seen paintings, drawings, ephemera, and artifacts.”

Val Agnew—Lost in The Ark
“Kate Bennett has spent most of her life shielding her sisters from their angry mother. A loner, she’s an easy recruit for a zealous youth group at her high school. On her first visit to The Ark—the group’s headquarters—Kate hears a sermon she can’t ignore.”

Aly Vredenburgh—Out of Focus: Why Gen Z’s Mental Health Crisis is More Complex Than You Think
“Out of Focus is the clarion call towards bringing the mental health crisis into focus, pushing towards meaningful and systemic change for Generation Z.”

We are so lucky to have such an inspiring group of authors in Carlsbad. Write On!
