Carlsbad hosts California Main Street’s 40th Anniversary Conference
As California Main Street celebrates 40 years of strengthening downtowns and neighborhood commercial districts, one of its biggest milestones will take place right here in Carlsbad Village.
The Carlsbad Village Association (CVA) has been selected to host the 2026 California Main Street Conference, bringing commercial district revitalization professionals, economic development leaders, city partners, and community stakeholders from across the state to Carlsbad, November 3–5. The three-day conference marks the first time the statewide gathering has been held in Southern California since 2022, making it both an honor for Carlsbad Village and an opportunity to showcase one of California’s most vibrant downtown districts.
Beyond the recognition, hosting the conference will provide a welcome boost to the local economy. More than 100 Main Street professionals are expected to stay in Village hotels, dine in local restaurants, shop in downtown businesses, and experience firsthand the energy, walkability, and sense of community that have made Carlsbad Village a model for successful downtown revitalization.
This year’s conference theme, The Next Wave of Main Street, explores the future of California’s commercial districts through innovation, entrepreneurship, small business support, and community growth. Attendees will participate in educational sessions, peer networking, and real-world case studies focused on economic vitality, placemaking, promotions, advocacy, partnerships, organizational sustainability, and events—all designed to help strengthen downtowns throughout California.
The Carlsbad Village Association has been an Affiliate Member of California Main Street since 2019, joining a network of 31 member programs representing communities that range from small rural towns to thriving urban neighborhoods. For four decades, California Main Street has championed the nationally recognized Main Street Approach—a place-based economic development model that helps communities create stronger local economies while preserving the unique character that makes each downtown special.
To maximize the conference’s economic impact, the event has been scheduled for the first week of November rather than its traditional mid-October dates, helping extend activity into the shoulder season for Village businesses. The Carlsbad Inn Beach Resort will serve as the host hotel, while educational sessions and events will be held at venues throughout the Village, including
New Village Arts, allowing attendees to experience Carlsbad’s restaurants, shops, arts, and public spaces throughout the conference.
For the Carlsbad Village Association, hosting the conference is more than an opportunity to welcome colleagues from across California—it’s a chance to showcase the collaborative spirit, thriving small business community, and distinctive downtown that local businesses, residents, and visitors have helped build together. As California Main Street celebrates its 40th anniversary, there is no better place to look toward the future of Main Streets than Carlsbad Village.
Local businesses and organizations interested in helping showcase Carlsbad Village through sponsorship or speaking opportunities are invited to contact the Carlsbad Village Association to learn how they can be part of this milestone event.
