We didn't have to look far to find inspiration for the theme for this year's Annual Business Awards Dinner. In fact, you might say that this year's theme has been looking us straight in the face for a long time.
Join us for the 2015 Annual Awards Dinner: A Sea of Opportunity on Friday, March 6 at the Omni La Costa Resort and Spa as we give awards to the Chamber members who are forging the future today. We'll be celebrating the spirit of adventure and the thrill of discovery that comes from the ocean?there's just so much to be discovered when we look toward the sea.
After all, Carlsbad owes much to its place right next to the ocean, and I'm not just talking about the sandy beaches that bring thousands to our community each year.
In 2015, for example, Poseidon Water will complete its long-awaited desalination project on our shores. The ocean will provide up to 10 percent of our drinking water, ensuring the region with a drought-proof source of water.
Speaking of drinking water, were it not for it, there might not be a Carlsbad at all. The city's name comes to us from the alkaline mineral water that was discovered here in 1882, leading the discoverer, Capt. John Frazier, to name his wells after therapeutic water from a European Spa resort that at the time was called Karlsbad in Bohemia (currently it's called the City of Karlovy Vary in the Czech Republic).

The event will celebrate Carlsbad's five key industries. The awards will honor companies that have created jobs and made positive contributions to Carlsbad's business community. Nominations can come from a number of sources: From the businesses themselves or their employees, business partners or clients. What better testimony to give on behalf of one of your business partners than to nominate them for these prestigious awards.
Awards will be given in the following categories:
• Action Sports & Manufacturing
This award will be given to a company that has demonstrated design, implementation, product performance, market acceptance, increasing sales and moving into international markets.
Innovative manufacturing approaches such as excellence in financial performance, overall business strategy, internal operations, corporate training, manufacturing processes, and sustainable practices will be considered.
• Clean Technologies
This company has a demonstrated commitment of using green technology through the use of solar, wind, water, or energy efficient products.
This company is also committed to sustainable business practices, and overall reduction of carbon footprint by recycling, reusing or other "green" practices.
• Hospitality & Leisure
This company has demonstrated superior customer service, quality facilities, openness to the public, competitively priced, availability, uniqueness, is family-friendly, and amenities to choose from to distinguish itself as an industry leader for others to follow. Company or organization promotes Carlsbad to visitors and tourists.
• Information and Communications Technology
This company has demonstrated the use of information and communication technologies such as: software, hardware, or a combination of both to transmit signs, signals, writing, images, voice, video, or data through media (e.g., Internet, radio, television).
• Life Sciences
This award will be given to a company that has demonstrated innovative and positive contributions related to biology, biotechnology, genomics, neuroscience, pharmacology or similar industries. This company must also have recently made significant and positive contributions related to promoting the study of life sciences or other scientific achievements, which improve the quality and standards of life.
