Many never believed it would happen and most still don't unless they see it firsthand. On Wednesday, November 16, 2005, beginning at 11 a.m., Project Walk, will host its first annual walk for recovery.
Unlike many fundraising walks, the only participants are clients, people with a spinal cord injury (SCI), all given less then a 10% chance of ever walking again. The walk is a quarter mile trek from On A Roll Sandwich Shoppe at 2794 Loker Avenueto the Project Walk? headquarters located at 2738 Loker Avenue.

The walk will be made without braces or robotic devices; the organization's most advanced clients will walk without any aids, while others may rely on hiking poles. Those still in training may walk with the help of arm crutches or walkers. There will also be a relay that allows those clients who are unable to make the whole distance an opportunity to participate. Each of those participants will walk as far as they can before passing a baton to the next walker.

The goal of this event is very simple: Create awareness and change the perception about SCI. Project Walk hopes many will come out and support the members, celebrating their success, while paving the way for others to achieve the same. If you have any questions, would like to volunteer, or would like to make a donation, please call Project Walk at (760) 431-3481.
