I want to thank all the Chamber members and their families who helped me win the election to serve as the Mayor of Carlsbad for the next four years.
I am very mindful of the responsibilities of serving as your Mayor, and at the same time I am mindful that the city's relationship with the business community is a key to the quality of life in our city. I want you to know that the single most important ingredient in helping to secure our future is the employment of our citizens.
Carlsbad's long-standing tradition of fiscal responsibility has allowed our city to survive the downturn in much better shape than many cities. Decades of a positive bottom line have allowed the lifestyle our residents have come to expect to remain in place.
I know that businesses — not government –creates jobs. As we look into the future, we need to attract and retain our businesses. We need to provide the tools our businesses need to allow them to prosper and create employment. We need to encourage new businesses to come to Carlsbad through a collaborative effort between the private and public sectors.
I look forward to a strong alliance with business, one that will make Carlsbad the envy of the state with its world-class quality of life.
